Comerica Community Resource Center opens at Ella Austin Community Center

February 5, 2013 – Comerica Bank has partnered with Ella Austin Community Center to open a community resource room with free computer and internet access to Eastside residents. “Lot’s of people in our community don’t have the internet or a computer in their home,” says Tony Hargrove, Executive Director at Ella Austin Community Center, which is located at N Pine St. “This center allows folks to come in and search for jobs, update their resumes, or look for community resources. It’s safe, comfortable, and free. It’s really exciting to have this at our community center.”

The center has two computer stations with access to the internet, a reading corner with children’s books, and will also have Kindles available for patrons. “We want this space to be somewhere our neighbors feel is theirs, because it truly is for the neighborhood’s use,” says Tony. The Comerica Community Resource Room is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

In addition to the community resource room, free Pre-K classes for the Eastside’s three and four year old children are available at Ella Austin Community Center, funded by Eastside Promise Neighborhood in partnership with SAISD. A partnership that includes the City of San Antonio, United Way, and Catholic Charities is also operating a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site at Ella Austin during the 2012-2013 tax season.
