EPN announces 3rd Info session for funding opportunities: applications available NOW!

Purpose: The Eastside Promise Neighborhood Purchase of Service Proposal Request is an effort to encourage the activities and ideas of residents and organizations within the Eastside Promise Neighborhood footprint by supporting initiatives that can have a large impact on neighborhood goals.

This request for purchase of service proposal is funded through United Way of San Antonio & Bexar County, grantee of the U.S. Department of Education.  Each Purchase of Service will follow applicable code of federal regulations (CFR).

  1. Physical Fitness Activities: EPN seeks providers to offer physical fitness activities for students in 5th to 12th grade who live in the EPN footprint or attend one of the five EPN schools (Bowden, Pershing, Washington, Wheatley and Sam Houston). The provider will ensure participants are involved in at least 60 minutes of physical activity per class day, provide physical/nutrition education from 5-30 minutes per week, and engage parents to participate in the program on a monthly basis. Proposed programs must impact  EPN result: Students are Healthy. A request for Purchase of Service (POS) proposals will be accepted to fund experienced providers with a maximum budget  not to exceed $30,000 for the period of February 8, 2016 through December 15, 2016.
  2. Farmers Market: EPN seeks providers that will set up farmers markets in which local farmers will sell fresh fruits and vegetables  to all community residents, specifically targeting families of 5th – 12th graders who live in the EPN footprint or attend one of the five EPN schools (Bowden, Pershing, Washington, Wheatley and Sam Houston).   Proposed programs must impact  EPN results: Students are Healthy.  A request for Purchase of Service (POS) proposals will be accepted to fund experienced providers with a maximum budget  not to exceed $25,000 for the period of February 8, 2016 through July 31, 2016.
  3. Nutrition Education Program: EPN seeks providers that will offer cooking classes / nutrition education awareness for students 5th – 12th grade and their families who live in the EPN footprint or attend one of the five EPN schools (Bowden, Pershing, Washington, Wheatley and Sam Houston).   Proposed programs must impact  EPN results: Students are Healthy.  A request for Purchase of Service (POS) proposals will be accepted to fund experienced providers with a maximum budget  not to exceed $15,000 for the period of February 8, 2016 through December 15, 2016.
  4. Asthma Education Program: EPN seeks providers that will offer asthma education in which program participants to include parents of 05 year old children are educated in regards to having asthma plan at home and childcare/school site, who live in the EPN footprint or attend one of the four EPN schools (Tynan, Bowden, Pershing, and Washington).   Proposed programs must impact  EPN results: Students are Healthy.  A request for Purchase of Service (POS) proposals will be accepted to fund experienced providers with a maximum budget  not to exceed $24,393 for the period of February 8, 2016 through December 15, 2016.

The deadline to submit all POS proposals is 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. All proposals must be hand-delivered to EPN Administrative Offices located on the 2nd Floor of Ella Austin Community Center, 1023 N. Details regarding the application will be presented during the Mandatory Information Sessions. Interested applicants must attend one information session on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Ella Austin Community Center, 1023 N. Pine, 2nd Floor in the Boardroom or on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St, in the library. A 3rd Information Session has been added and is scheduled for Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. at Ella Austin Community Center, 1023 N. Pine, 2nd Floor in the Boardroom.

Please Note:  We highly recommend the staff representative that attends the information sessions be the person who is the grant writer or  part of the program implementation team.
