Physical Fitness Programs

EPN strives to ensure students in 6th to 12th grade are actively engaged in moderate to physical activity for a minimum of 60 minutes per day each day of the week.

Moderate-intensity activity is typically identified as a 5 or 6 on the scale and a child’s heart beat and breath will be faster and harder than normal. Vigorous-intensity activity is a 7 or 8 on the scale and the child’s heart beat will be much faster than normal and their breath will be much harder than usual.

***If you are in grades 5th-12th grade and/ or live in the EPN footprint (78202 or 78208 zip codes) we strongly encourage you to register. Slots are currently available, contact program staff directly.

All our current funded programs have been asked to participate in the Air Quality Flag Program to reduce asthma attacks.  Poor air quality is one of the many triggers of asthma attacks. The Flag Program uses colored flags based on EPA’s Air Quality Index (AQI) to notify teachers, coaches, students, and other about outdoor air quality conditions.  Programs are asked to raise a colored flag each day that corresponds to their local air quality forecast. For more information on the program or to see today’s ozone report visit www.airnow.gov.
