Veronica Rodriguez graduated Valedictorian from her hometown high school in Poteet, TX. While attending The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), she worked at the Toyota plant as an Environmental Specialist. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Ms. Rodriguez moved straight into her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction at UTSA. In 2009 she started working at Wheatley Middle School as the 8th grade Science teacher. “I love working here it reminds me of being back at home. I know a lot of the families in the neighborhood, sisters, brothers, cousins who I have taught” said Ms. Rodriguez.
Her first class at Wheatley still visits her; they are currently seniors in High Schools. “Ms. Rodriguez is the best teacher I have ever had because she made learning fun. I remember when she used Oreos to demonstrate the lunar eclipse cycle,” said former student, Patrick Winn. Her drive to make learning fun resulted in starting a successful Lego Mindstorm Robotics club after school for her students. She is also the head of Coach of the 7th & 8th grade soccer teams. Even with all her extracurricular activities she still manages to find time to plan the yearly 8th grade Prom.
Faculty and staff from Wheatley Middle School voted Ms. Rodriguez 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year. She hopes to leave a legacy for her students and her own son “to be lifelong learners and to know that if you put your mind to it, then you can do it”. She is a lifelong learner herself, receiving her ESL certification from Texas A&M San Antonio, and studying for her S.T.E.M certification. Ms. Rodriguez is truly an example of an inspiring teacher.
