Schools & Neighborhoods Committee

 

The Schools and Neighborhood Committee’s focus is to help improve the well being of your community. We encourage you to participate, advocate, and share your dreams for your neighborhood! Committee representation includes community members, parents, school administration and law enforcement.

The responsibilities of being a committee member include the following:

  • Creating strategies that impact the Department of Education neighborhood goals
    • Students feel safe at school and traveling to and from school
    • Students live in stable communities
  • Attending monthly meetings
  • Providing expert knowledge on schools and neighborhood related topics

The focus of the Committee will involve solutions around:

  • Pedestrian Safety
  • Positive Behavioral Interventions & Solutions/PBIS on school campuses [SAISD initiative]
  • Public Safety
  • Safe Routes to School
  • Anti-Bullying solutions
  • Community events to address mental health topics such as stress, trauma, and violence

Meetings are held at HIS Bridge Builder’s- Mike’s House (339 Gabriel St)  from 1:00-2:30pm

  • October 12th (sustainability meeting from 5:00- 7:00 at Wheatley Community School)
